People who are registered as unemployed are also allowed to take a vacation. However, they must apply to the agency for work and have it approved. This is possible at the earliest one week before departure – a call to the employment agency is sufficient for this purpose. However, unemployed persons are allowed to stay in another place for up to three weeks in a calendar year if they are not expected to be placed in a job or participate in vocational training during this period. The trip was not allowed to interrupt any appointments for trial work or job interviews.

If you travel without permission, you risk losing your entitlement to benefits for the duration of the trip – you will then have to pay back any overpayments you have received, including health and nursing care insurance. If the requirements are met, approval is given immediately – and then the continued payment of benefits for up to three weeks is also ensured.
